I don't know how much of a difference my altitude makes in the fuel-air mixture of my Savage, but I don't get any backfires, not even a mini-fart! At my riding altitude of 3000-3300 feet, the air is a bit thinner, so I wonder if this shifts my fuel-air balance a little toward the rich side? My '97 now has 1280 miles, and the only obvious mod it's had is the removal of the brass plug over the low-speed mixture screw. I backed it out about 3 turns for the most stable idle. I have no idea if the white spacer has ever been removed. The screws on top of the carb look like they've never been touched! I'm about ready to order a Jardine, so this may lean things up again. What do you think?
